Can't turn off device - app to help?

If it does not belong anywhere else and has to do with Android post it here.

I've been having an intermittent problem with my device refusing to turn off. I suspect it's either the one app I use (Happy Color) or something is wrong with the phone itself. I'll uninstall HColor and see what happens, but does this brain trust know of some software I can use to investigate and/or fix this before I bite the very bitter bullet and restore to factory settings?

Use ADB to turn off or boot to recovery.

I forgot I posted this.
I called my carrier for tech support. The first thing the recording says is to pull out the battery and wait about 10 seconds before putting it back in. Works like a charm.
