Today’s topic is:

Image

Cocktails featuring fresh herbs

Rules:
    • For the next hour you may post:
    • The name of the drink,
    • The specific ingredients, including today's topic, with weights and measures preparation,
    • Directions for preparing the drink, and
    • A picture of the drink. [No large photos, please. Video and any other form of animated entries are not allowed.]
  • Maximum 4 posts per person – more than four and all of that player’s posts will be disallowed and/or deleted.
  • Posts must be genuine drink recipes; no fictional ingredients or drinks (from movies, TV shows, books, etc.); e.g., Moloko Plus, Glingue, Elsinore beer, etc.
  • Recipes must be complete with no packet shortcuts; e.g., Mix with a packet of Dimitri’s Bloody Mary seasoning.
  • Where the contest topic specifies a country, an event, or a specific ingredient, then the recipe must identify and have a provenance with that topic. Simply putting the name of the country, event, or ingredient in front of a routine recipe is not allowed.
  • No recipes shall include ingredients from endangered or protected species.
  • Duplicates (including a slight variation), off topic, or anything else that contravenes the rules may simply be deleted … or may be commented on.
  • Where a post has been edited resulting in duplicates, then the last one in time gets disallowed. So be careful if you decide to edit your post by adding a photo after a subsequent poster has already posted a duplicate of your original post; your valid first post will be disallowed as there is no way to tell whether you just added a photo or completely changed your post.
  • Definitions: In this contest the following definitions apply.
    • Recipe
      • A list of instructions containing:
      • The name (and often the locale or provenance) of the drink,
      • The required ingredients along with their quantities or proportions,
      • An ordered list of preparation steps and techniques, and
      • The number of servings that the recipe will provide (the "yield").
    • Fluids consisting of the following:
      • Alcoholic beverages made by fermentation or distillation or mixtures of the same (cocktails),
      • Infusions,
      • Juice and juice drinks, or
      • Flavoured or carbonated water.
    • Traditional specialty
      • Proven usage on the domestic market or domestic household for a period that allows transmission between generations; this period is to be at least 30 years
    • Food (Drink Garnishes)
      • Edible or potable substance (usually of animal or plant origin), consisting of nourishing and nutritive components such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, essential mineral and vitamins, which (when ingested and assimilated through digestion) sustains life, generates energy, and provides growth, maintenance, and health of the body and excluding drink.
  • By posting in this contest you voluntarily submit yourself to acerbic comments.
  • Entries shall be in English (unless the title is in another language) in a text format and should be accompanied by a photo of the drink. No entry may contain a link to any other site, save, of course, for any photo accompanying the entry.
  • Editing of a post is not allowed after the contest has closed.

Reward:
The reward will be 50 WRZ$ per valid post.

PEAR + GINGER-SAGE CHAMPAGNE COCKTAILS

1 cup honey
3 cups water
2 whole pears, peeled, cored and diced
1 large chunk of ginger, peeled and diced
20 fresh sage leaves + additional for garnish
1 bottle of your favorite champagne or sparkling wine

Preparation
In a saucepan combine the honey and water over medium heat and bring to a light boil. Turn the heat down to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the honey has dissolved completely. Add the pears, ginger and sage leaves. Simmer until the mixture has reduced by 1/3. About 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let the mixture steep for an additional 10 minutes.
Strain the syrup into a large mason jar. Discard the ginger and sage leaves.
To assemble the drinks place a few pieces of the cooked pear into each glass followed by 1-2 Tablespoons of the simple syrup. Add the champagne and enjoy.

Notes
*This makes more simple syrup than you'll need for 4 cocktails. Save extra simple syrup in the fridge and enjoy over ice cream or even in smoothies. *Use this recipe as a guide and adjust measurements and ingredients as necessary.

BLUEBERRY BASIL MARGARITA

Ingredients
flaked sea salt
150 g | 5.3oz blueberries fresh or frozen
2 measures 50ml | 1.7fl oz tequila
1 tbsp + 1 tsp triple sec or Grand Marnier
1 tbsp lime juice
1 tbsp agave nectar
2 small basil leaves
basil leaves and lime wedges to garnish

Instructions
Cut a wedge of lime and wipe it around the edge of your glass – either a margarita glass or whatever you prefer. Dip the glass into a plate filled with sea salt and set aside.
Put the blueberries (defrost them if frozen), agave nectar, basil leaves and lime juice in a cocktail shaker or glass and muddle them with a muddling spoon or the end of a rolling pin. Strain the blueberry pulp through a small sieve and press down with the back of a spoon to extract as much juice as possible from the berries.
Put the tequila, triple sec and blueberry juice in cocktail shaker half filled with ice and shake for 30 seconds.
Strain the cocktail into the prepared glass and add some cracked ice if you like. Garnish with a lime wedge and a small basil leaf.
