The Castaway (#1)
A President dies under mysterious circumstances, leaving a secret mistress and their twelve-year-old son…and also a loyal First Lady who has no idea what went wrong with their marriage.

Forty-nine-year old widow Ruby Hudson, the former First Lady of the United States, needs a fresh start. As she mourns the loss of her husband, she turns her love of books into a whole new career, opening a little bookshop on a charming, pirate-themed island called Shipwreck Key just off the coast of the Florida Panhandle. Her two daughters think she’s crazy, but Ruby can finally breathe again knowing that she'll never have to deal with the constant scrutiny and pressure that come with a high-profile life in the White House.

Just as she’s beginning to feel at home on Shipwreck Key, Ruby receives a visit from her husband’s former Chief of Staff: a tell-all biography about her husband’s presidency—and about their marriage—is in the works, and the author is none other than Dexter North, a young, hot, serious journalist with another scandalous book about a different President’s misdeeds already on the bestseller lists. Ruby worries that the book will destroy her husband’s legacy—not to mention her life—and she realizes that the only way to control the narrative is to cooperate with Dexter North.

Then, without warning, the President’s mistress shows up on the island with their son. Ruby doesn’t want to meet or talk to this woman, and when her late husband’s lover gives her a mysterious letter that he wrote for Ruby before his death, she's conflicted: open it and possibly find out what he had to say to her, or ignore it and live the rest of her life not knowing what was going on in his mind?

Can Ruby use the information in the letter to find the closure she so desperately needs, or will the President's betrayals haunt her for the rest of her life? Can a former First Lady ever really have a second act?

The Runaway (#2)
When a woman needs to flee a bad marriage, it doesn’t matter that she’s the wife of the former Vice President, it only matters that she escapes…

Sunday Bond longs for a life far from Washington D.C., and far from the husband who has kept her in a gilded cage for too long, locked up there with only his dark secrets to keep her company. When Sunday’s best friend, the former First Lady, moves south to Shipwreck Key, Sunday goes for a visit and decides to stay.

The remote island off the coast of Florida is the perfect place to avoid the world’s prying eyes and to forget about her husband’s many indiscretions. The warm ocean breeze and the vibrant colors of the tropical flora embrace Sunday, and the island holds the promise of endless possibilities for a woman who is finally free.
As Sunday settles into her new life on Shipwreck Key, she can’t help but feel a flutter in her heart whenever she encounters a Secret Service agent named Henry Banks. It seems like every time she’s washing dishes at her sink, he’s running shirtless down the beach where she can see him, and every time she ends up in a compromising position, Banks is there to save the day. Before long, Sunday isn’t just daydreaming about Banks—she’s actively seeking out his company and blurring the lines between his job and her desires.
But as Sunday begins to explore her own feelings and to enjoy her freedom, she’s hit with the weight of her soon-to-be ex-husband’s ire: Peter Bond wants to run for office again, but in order to do that, he needs to bury his own secrets under the wreckage of Sunday’s life, and he’s determined to throw her under any bus he can find in order to save face politically. This leaves Sunday in a quandary: go back to the tiny fishing village of her youth and face her own demons before Peter shares them with the world, or ignore his threats and accept the possibility that her children will find out things about her that she never wanted them to know?
Caught in a whirlwind of emotions and experiences, trapped under the weight of her previous life and the choices she made, Sunday’s past begins to bear down on her. She doesn’t know whether coming clean will bring her the happiness she’s wanted for so long, but she does know that until she returns to her hometown and confronts her own past, she won’t ever truly be free…free to live without Peter and his dark secrets, free to love again, and free to share her full self with her two daughters.

The Throwaway (#3)
When a woman is prized first and foremost for her looks, what does she have left to offer when the world decides those looks are fading?

Marigold Pim, once the darling of the modeling world, graced the covers of nearly every prestigious fashion magazine on the planet. Her beauty made her the epitome of glamour as a young woman—and also led her straight into the arms of Cobb Hartley, the famous-but-troubled British rockstar. They raised a son together and endured two decades of a complicated marriage, but now they’re happily divorced and living their lives on different continents.

For twenty years Cobb Hartley was Marigold’s lover, her biggest cheerleader, and her best friend, and divorcing him doesn’t mean that he’s not a part of her life anymore, because there’s still real love there—love, and friendship. So when Cobb comes to Marigold in his time of need (once again), she knows what she has to do—even if it means putting herself in second place by taking her ex-husband in for the holiday season.

But helping Cobb does come at a cost: Marigold has to share her hard-won peace by letting him stay with her on Shipwreck Key for Christmas and New Year’s, and having him there stirs up all kinds of feelings and unresolved emotions. One minute, Marigold and Cobb are laughing and remembering the good times, and the next minute she wants to toss him out on his ear because she can’t forget all the ways he let her down. Being divorced can be just as complicated as being married, and Marigold needs to figure out what her relationship with Cobb is going to look like for the rest of their lives--and fast.

There are millions of women watching as she tries to find her way through this stage of her life, but can Marigold Pim prove to the world—and to herself—that neither beauty nor love truly have expiration dates?

The Hideaway (#4)
A Secret Service agent devotes his life to protecting the people he serves…until one day he realizes that the person who needs protecting is him.

Henry Banks is a former Marine, a career Secret Service agent, and the only man allowed into the Shipwreck Key book club full of women. He’s like a handsome brick wall who doesn’t show emotion, but he’s finally let his guard down—just a little bit—to let Sunday Bond in. Banks and the former Second Lady have been dating for a few months, but now that they’re in their fifties and both divorced once, the dating dance has become more complicated.

Part of Banks’s impenetrable fortress is from his years protecting the President and First Family, but another part of it stems from his days as a Marine in combat. Like so many people who have served, Banks is haunted by the memories of the horrors he’s seen, the places he’s been, and the things he’s done. But now that he’s found someone he truly cares about, Banks is finally ready to open his heart and be the kind of man who shares his emotions, his fears, and his life.

In addition to his budding relationship with Sunday, Banks is still officially charged with guarding Ruby Hudson, former First Lady and owner of Shipwreck Key’s only bookstore. As Ruby grows more comfortable on the island and less dependent on Banks for protection, he burrows deeper into his life there, determined to spend the rest of his days as a Secret Service agent posted right there on Shipwreck Key. But it’s not just that he wants to be close to Sunday—Banks’s platonic friendship with Ruby and his deep devotion to her as a First Lady are important cornerstones of his life; he can’t even imagine doing anything else.

As Banks is easing into this phase of his life, he discovers that matters of the heart don’t abide by the same formal rules as the Marines or the Secret Service; when it comes to love, he’ll have to leap first and look later. But can he trust Sunday to be the one who helps him heal his old wounds? And can he count on Ruby for emotional support the same way she’s counted on him for protection all these years?

When the lines between duty and friendship—between love and honor—become blurred, can a hardened Marine count on the women in his life to save him?

The Breakaway (#5)
When a woman gets to a certain age, everyone forgets that she has a long and vibrant life behind her. Molly is no different; at sixty-five, the residents of Shipwreck Key see her as just the proprietress of The Scuttlebutt, the island’s coffee shop. But Molly has lived—really lived—and she has the battle scars to prove it.

In 1982, when her beloved husband Rodney died in a boating accident off the coast of Hawaii, Molly was left a widow in her early twenties. But not only was she left to live without her best friend and life partner the day his boat vanished, her hopes and dreams to travel the world were dashed as well.
An accomplished and daring sailor, Molly had planned to travel the world for a year with Rodney, stopping in every port and soaking in the rich beauty of foreign places. But with him gone, could she find the strength and the fortitude to do it alone? Could she captain her own ship, sail the open seas, and conquer both danger and the unknown as she visited every port they’d planned to drop anchor in together?
Even as the women of the Marooned With a Book club listen to Molly’s wild tale of adventure, passion, and romance, it’s almost impossible for them to believe that salt-of-the-earth Molly once traveled the world by her wits, surviving on nothing but curiosity and the memory of her lost love. But—with any luck at all—everyone gets there someday; each of us end up looking at the most adventurous parts of our lives in the rearview mirror…the goal is to look back and see it all as the rich experience it was, and not with regret or longing.

The Takeaway (#6)
Ruby Hudson has avoided reading the words of her late husband, President Jack Hudson--until now...

For most of his life, Jack kept meticulous and well-written journals and diaries about his life. After his death, everything was boxed up and put into storage, but now, nearly two years after his passing, Ruby is ready to start unpacking her past and making sense of her husband's choices.

With the month of August to herself on Shipwreck Key, Ruby brings out the boxes of journals dating back to the 70s, and she tries to unravel the mystery of her marriage: where did it go wrong? What had she missed? How could Jack have loved both her and Etienne? But as she reads, her anger grows. Understanding how Jack could rationalize his love affair with Etienne Boucher while still being married to her is maddening for Ruby, and when she invites Dexter North to join her, Jack's words become not just a messy puzzle for Ruby to put together, but a stumbling block for Dexter as he tries to write about the late president truthfully. Is it possible to fall in love with a woman while reading her husband's diaries, or will the details of their intimate family life be too much for Dexter to handle?

Ruby wants nothing more from reading the diaries than to understand, forgive, and move on, but is that even possible? When the man you loved and trusted takes his own life and leaves behind nothing but words, can you ever really forgive him?

The Fadeaway (#7)
Life giveth, and life taketh away. For a woman of a certain age, loss is not unexpected, but when Ruby Hudson loses someone she loves dearly, it changes everything...

At fifty, Ruby knows that life is a series of ups and downs, wins and losses, but she's still wholly unprepared to lose someone she loves so much. In the process of working through her grief, she discovers that there was so much she didn't know about this person she loved--so many contradictions and hidden stories. Has she turned a blind eye to everything but being First Lady, raising kids, and, now, to being a widow? Did she truly miss all of the wild and wonderful things about this person she'll spend the rest of her life missing?

Can anyone truly know the people they love, and appreciate them while they're still here? Or are we simply left wondering how we missed so many details about another person while we're tangled up in our own lives?
